What started as a little study space for my daughter turned into a whole lot more. She was in need of a desk area in her tiny dorm room. There isn't any floor space available for even a small desk and only 2 feet of open wall space. I found a fold-down wall desk online that was exactly the right size for this space. We ordered it and installed it in her room. This is what it looked like.
Functional, but not very pretty. I decided to add some shelves above it to give her more storage space. She also asked for a mirror over the desk so it could double as a vanity. Because of the dimensions, I had to get creative and make the shelves myself. I went to Home Depot and had them cut up wood into 3 pieces according to my measurements. I found industrial pipes at the craft store that I attached to the wood. The pipes were perfect for mounting the shelves.
Once the shelves were hung, I added wooden books and small boxes to expand her storage space. And of course of few plants to liven the space up.
This two feet of space now serves not only as a study area, but also a vanity and even has a little bit of extra storage! If you would like a more detailed how-to explaining the shelves, you can visit my blog.
