Make a Statement Desk Makeover...for the Fab Furniture Flippin' Cont

My husband and I recently purchased our first house, after being married nearly 5 years and moving 5 times, it was finally time to settle.
Needless to say, since we'd moved so many times (and half way across the country), we didn't own much furniture.
As we moved into our home, I started furnishing my office...realizing that I didn't even have a desk!







Luckily our neighbors were getting rid of a desk. It was this beauty (okay, not really beautiful, but nonetheless, functional).
So [raise your glass], here's to a new home with new furniture that will Make a Statement! [Cheers!]
BEFORE: You can see it's a pretty standard desk, it's made of wood, has drawers, and a writing surface on top.
Fortunately, I'm frugal and I love to give furniture personality...so painting this piece was right up my alley.





And so the painting began. I absolutely loved using the chalky paint. It went on thick and covered well, which is great when taking furniture from dark to light in color.





I've always had a thing for herringbone design and thought it would Make a Statement very well.
This was the perfect opportunity to incorporate the herringbone design in my office as well as add a pop of color.





The same metallic copper is part of the herringbone design on the top of the desk.
When the paint was dry, I went over the entire desk with a coat of clear varnish.
I used metallic rose gold fabric (which is actually really close in color to the metallic copper pulls) to create a banner above my desk.
It says "hope", which is a reminder I need to see constantly.





Now I get to sit back and really enjoy my desk and being in my office. This furniture flip has created a nice, calming, sanctuary that I get to call my office. It's lightened and brightened the entire room and makes me excited to be there.
