Do you ever have a piece of furniture that needs a little something to give it new life? I have had my sideboard for a few years and now was the time to refresh it. After a bit of TLC and a DIY attitude, it is now taking center stage as it should. Come over to the blog to see how it's done.Funny how you can have a piece of furniture that can be taken for granted, but once it looks new you ask yourself, "Why did I wait so long?"
That was this case with my Duncan Phyfe sideboard. It was used to store our homeschool materials for years, but has always been on my agenda to get a makeover. Now that we're into our kitchen remodel (see more on the blog) the time has come.
Primarily, the cabinet had the worse damage with missing veneer and wear, but that was an easy fix.
The top had some large scratches, but nothing that a good sanding couldn't take out.
Once the cabinet was painted and cured, I added some homemade chocolate glazing to draw out the details of the carved elements. You can get the tutorial on glazing on my blog.
All the time while I'm glazing I have the Karate Kid's Mr. Miyagi in my head saying "Wipe on, wipe off". Yes, I'm dating myself and perfection comes with age, right? tsk.
I am pleased with the results of this makeover and have decided to add this sideboard to my shop. So if you're interested in purchasing, you can find it at http://www.prodigalpieces.com. And if you want the details and more info. on this makeover, just click the link to head to the blog.
