When I saw this nasty deer skull and antlers hanging out in my workshop, I knew I had to use it for a creative project. If you've ever checked out the price of painted deer antlers then you know that it is an expensive business. I politely demanded my husband give this skull and antler set up for my own experiment into the world of antler painting.First up was the clean up - any hair, deer bits, or flaky skull parts were cleaned up with some Mean Green and a brush.
To brighten the skull, I taped off the antlers and used a white primer spray paint.
Taping and wrapping the sections of the skull that are not going to be painted is key - I used disposable shop towels and painters tape.
Because I wanted to spend as little on this project as possible ($0), I used extra paint that I had around the shop (chalk paint, gloss spray paint, and latex paint samples worked well). This now resides in my son's nursery as a part of his gallery wall!
